National champs: Nichols Esports/Gaming Club!

Huge congratulations to the Nichols Middle Esports/Gaming Club for winning first place in a national competition! The team competed in the Middle School Esports League’s Fall Major and took home first place in the Atlantic Region’s competition for Splatoon 3. The Nichols Lions team is also the only team in Illinois to place in the league’s events in 2022 and 2023!

“Not only do team members gain the same soft skills as they would from a physical sport (teamwork, communication, leadership, etc) but there are now Esports teams being created all over the country,” said Nichols Assistant Principal and club leader Andre Ball. “Teams are also being created in high schools and colleges/universities allowing students to even earn college scholarships similar to a physical sports program scholarship.”
